If more students apply than space available, students will be entered in a lottery.
All students registered during this window enter the lottery on equal terms.
Students registered after February 21st will be placed on a waitlist in the order applications are received.
Students who are not placed in the initial openings in the Montessori program will be placed on a waiting list and preliminarily enrolled in their neighborhood school.
ENROLLMENT Process
The Birch Lane Montessori Program is available to children grades Kindergarten through 6th grade. All students eligible to attend Davis schools may apply. Generally, students in the Birch Lane Elementary Montessori program enter at Kindergarten or the first semester of first grade. Parents of students in 2nd grade or higher who are interested in the Montessori program should contact the Birch Lane Elementary School.
The Birch Lane Montessori program is a choice program within the Davis, CA public schools, known as the Davis Joint Unified School District (DJUSD). All enrollment is handled by the DJUSD and all standard enrollment forms are required. To enroll in the Birch Lane Montessori program, you must also include the choice program application for 2025-26 (Spanish application coming soon). All material must be submitted together per the DJUSD enrollment instructions.

Each year, the Davis Joint Unified School District schedules Information nights for each school and program in Davis. The information session typically includes a brief explanation of the Montessori method and the Birch Lane program, a tour of a Kindergarten/1st grade mixed grade classroom, and some parent testimonials. This will be followed by a question and answer session with Birch Lane Montessori teachers, parents, and the school principal.
